Personal Recommendations
A standout dish I personally enjoyed was the Family Pleaser—a perfect way to get a taste of Monical's offerings. The combination of a cool Garden Salad, a refreshing pitcher of Root Beer, and the 16" thin crust pizza topped with minced garlic, sausage, green bell peppers, and mushrooms made for a satisfying dining experience.

How I heard of this place: Our family of locals, my brother-in-law used to eat here after high school football games. We made sure to sample its thin-crust goodness. Type of cuisine: "In 1959 the Monical family started making pizzas in the little town of Tolono, Illinois. Before long, their recipe became a hit with many of their local friends and neighbors. Thus was born Monical's Pizza®, a name that over the years has become synonymous locally with the very finest thin crust pizza." Ambiance: The stand-alone building welcomes patrons into an unpretentious, family-friendly space with comfortable booth- as well as wooden chair-seating for parties of all sizes. Place your order at the counter as you enter the premises, and find your way back to the dining area, where a friendly server will greet you with your beverages, salads and pizzas, in that order. What I ordered: Being a family of four, we decided to order The Family Pleaser ($29.01, including tax), which offered a pitcher of Root Beer (our pop of choice), a Garden Salad with iceberg lettuce, shredded carrots, diced tomatoes and grated cheddar cheese, and a 16″ thin crust pizza topped with our selection of minced garlic, sausage, green bell peppers, and mushrooms. What I loved: The local favorite: red sauce in a squeeze bottle to enjoy on salads, pizza, and presumably anything else that makes its way out of the kitchen! Why I loved it: A true local space, where the old ladies meet to play bridge and the servers are high school teenagers earning a dollar on their days off. Friendly service and delicious food to boot! Cost: Average to high ($8 - $20 per pizza)
